A key milestone in the conference’s development was the official launch of ATHENA on 24 June 2022 during THE INC 2022. Since then, THE INC has become the official conference of ATHENA, further strengthening its international reach and academic impact.

 

Research Excellence and Impact

THE INC is recognised for promoting high-quality research and generating substantial academic output. Each edition of the conference leads to special issues published in internationally respected journals, including AJG 2* outlets, with additional support from leading AJG 3* and 4* journals.

 

The conference has consistently delivered strong publication outcomes. THE INC 2018 resulted in 24 articles published across Event Management and Hospitality & Society. THE INC 2020 produced 16 articles in Event Management and Tourism Planning & Development, while THE INC 2022 generated 18 articles across the same journals. Building on this success, THE INC 2024 generated three special issues in the International Journal of Tourism Research, Event Management, and Strategic Change, all of which were published in 2025.

Looking ahead, THE INC 2026 has already secured two special issues in Event Management and Tourism Geographies, with publication expected in 2027.

 

Taken together, these outputs consistently highlight THE INC as one of the most significant research-focused conferences in the field of tourism, hospitality and events.
